Kadero
was born 1972 in Oujda, Maroc, near to the algerian border. Due to this
geographical issue, he was soon attracted by the music of the big Raï
Stars, like Khaled and Cheb Mami.
After immigrating to Austria, he formed the VIENNA RAI ORCHESTRA in 2001 together with the accordeon and piano player Otto Lechner, who allready had earned reputation in austrian Jazz with his inspiring compositions and interpretations. A real blend of maghrebean and european musicians and musicstyle was the result of this attempt - a real worldmusic with lots of influences and origins. The style of the Vienna Rai Orchestra is unique and groovy and also musicaly worth a closer look. The typical Raï compositions, mainly a mixture of north-west african folklore and afropop, were enriched with a taste of austrian Jazz and a western feeling of arrangements and instrumentation. Most compositions are done by Kadero and Otto Lechner, which features exactly this kind of mixture. The Vienna Rai Orchestra performs in two different set-ups: the big set-up with 12 musicians is suitable for big festival stages and halls, while the smaller 6-musicians-set-up is more club compatible, but never the less driving. On their debut album "Perdu", released in 2005 on Atlas Music Pro, the band performs a wide range of skills and two tracks even made it to hit status in several european countries. Bringing together some of the best jazz musicians of Austria with a great voice of Raï, brought attention also to Joe Zawinul, the great explorer between the two worlds of jazz and ethnic music. With his help, the band improved and reached the ability to blend the best of two worlds for the listeners of ONE world. And even in Maroc, the motherland of Kadero and somehow the Raï, more than 20,000 spectators of the Rawafid Festival in Laayoune in 2007, were mesmerized by the unique sound of Kadero and the Vienne Rai Orchestra. So let them take you away as well - on a journey to our nearest neighbours we unfortunately know so little. Let them built a bridge for european ears and minds with a combination of known and unknown musical styles, that, when you listen carefully, are not so far away from each other than you might think.
